The Marche Design process focuses on four key steps in the product development cycle. Our company structure is designed with speed-to-market in mind because it is a critical issue for our clients and new product developers. We have the capability to execute the solution efficiently and effectively.
The product is defined. Each new project begins with market research that guides the direction for new product design. Gathering consumer research allows us to understand the users perception of similar products on the market. On-site research identifies the key requirements and explores what the consumer needs in the product followed by what they desire in the product. Current market research involves gathering knowledge of present trends, statistics, competitors and retail opportunities for solid product placement. Throughout the entire product development process, all decisions are made from our research.
Knowledge becomes innovation. Our diverse team then collaborates to organize the research, discuss the scope of the project and current technology along with conceptual ideation brainstorming. Possible scenarios are developed into storyboards to communicate the products function, application and scale. Through sketching, we elaborate on our ideas, use visual scenarios, and focus on aesthetics. Our team presents and evaluates the design, then concentrates on developing visually compelling concepts for the client.
Design and engineering meet. After developing the concepts, Marché presents them to the client and collects feedback. A parallel process begins between designing and engineering. Designers refine aesthetics, make material decisions, and develop usability needs while working with engineers to discuss technological working components. Our offices collaborate early in the refinement process helping to develop the product through evaluation of manufacturing costs and outsourcing of needed components. Working prototypes from our Shenzhen office are produced from the final concept. These prototypes help our team determine if the ergonomics, durability, functionality and usability are up to par. This process continues until all requirements are met and the development process can proceed.
Concept transforms into product. Our offices in the United States and China work together to oversee all aspects of the manufacturing process spanning from tooling to market delivery. We believe that speed-to-market is a critical issue for our clients and new product developers. We provide all product support materials including product identity, user manuals, and packaging. We have the capability to deliver the solution efficiently and effectively.
Below is an example of how Marche utilized the four key steps in the prodcut development process to develop and create the Phone CD.
To update an existing Frontgate alarm clock / radio by incorporating a 2.4 Ghz cordless telephone, Compact Disc player and a digital answering machine. Marche designed and engineered the product with the assistance of electrical engineering and software programming through its manufacturing partner, Sieco, in Shanghi China.
Premilinary sketches are developed at the intial stage from extensive market research. Scenarios began to develop and were presented and evaluated.

Foam models were created to explore the unit's basic sculpture and form. These models also helped to determine the ergonomics of the handset and base unit. From these foam models, engineering files were created and detailed. Full scale aesthetic models were generated to evaluate the design direction and provide Frontgate with a unit to photograph for their catalogs. These models were photographed for product spreads and will be included in the Frontgate catalog.

Color studies were created in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to give a realistic representation of the finish qualities that would be possible in production. Created at full scale, the photoshop renderings allowed Frontgate to gain an understanding of the design direction and helped to detail the product.

The finished product ready for the market.
